Defense and Security Studies is a program that advances understanding of global security. Since 2013, DSS has led conferences, workshops, and seminars on contemporary security challenges.

DSS convenes gatherings with a consortium of universities—Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, the University of Chicago, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, MIT, Penn, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale—and with consortium partners from the U.S. National War College, U.S. Army War College, U.S. Naval War College, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and U.S. Naval Academy.

DSS emphasizes interdisciplinary methods, integrating the security advancements of several fields, to include development, diplomacy, economics, history, law, management, and technology.
